James Woolley was appointed Executive Director of Miami-Dade. College-acclaimed Miami Film Festival (M.F.F.) in 2024, marking a pivotal chapter in both his career and the festival’s storied history. With nearly two decades of expertise in festival leadership, programming, and marketing, Woolley brings a visionary approach to one of Miami’s most influential cultural institutions, where he now guides their artistic direction and strategic growth. His career has been defined by an exceptional ability to connect filmmakers and audiences, curating projects across genres and styles while presenting them in world-class venues that celebrate both creativity and cultural exchange. Woolley’s passion for cinema can be traced to his roots. Born in Australia, into a family deeply connected to the arts, he grew up surrounded by a vibrant film culture. His grandparents were devoted subscribers to the Sydney Film Festival, a tradition that became part of family life. It was at the festival that his parents attended many of their early dates, weaving film into their personal history and, eventually, into their son’s upbringing. This environment instilled in Woolley not only an appreciation for cinema as an art form but also a deep understanding of its power to inspire dialogue, empathy, and community.
